This project was intended to take advantage of the change in policy that would allow second dwellings (with restrictions) on a rural property. The Owner has a couple old grain bins too small to be useful and thought that he would convert them into a second dwelling to supply some much needed affordable housing to the community. The grain bin is a whopping 450sq.ft tiny home! This area is a generally accepted minimum size for affordable housing in Ontario and very achievable for 1 bedroom apartments. VELD architect explored various options to achieve cost effective solutions, using off-the shelf solutions rather than custom. Our designs strived for maximum functionality, without wasting a single square foot (which is extremely difficult in a circle), and  of course Wow factor! We had to balance the structural, insulating, and plumbing technical requirements, and negotiate with the building department on some alternative and unique solutions. The project was put on hold for future consideration.
