The clients shared a love of barns. After determining that the barn on the property was too big for the house’s needs they decided to adopt a mini barn and incorporate it into the living space of the new house build. The build was to passive house, and allow them to age in place for a long time. The site took advantage of long views over the valley with a big sky like the client’s home province of Alberta.  The challenge of this project was to integrate a tighter budget with their functional needs and ultimately the two could not be resolved and the project was shelved.
