Death of the Farmyard

I had a dream last night about designing for the minimum distance separations ( MDS) required by OMAFRA and I very quickly realized that distances of 300-500ft are going to cause the extinction of the farmyard. The farmyard is the area between house and barn. It is a sheltered area to work on tractor repairs, move equipment around, have neighbors park for a party, or have your children ride their bikes around in. Farmers are soon going to need to drive from their house to the barn everyday even if the barn is on the same property. I am sure you have all seen A very large barn sitting in the middle of the field, relating to nothing. This is the result of MDS. The separation of the house from the barn is not a good thing for the farmstead.  All of a sudden the house is standing alone too. A passerby cannot understand what kind of farm they operate, or if their even farmers at all!
